Hide didn’t start as a business — it started at home. When my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, everything we put in and on our bodies came under a microscope. “Clean” suddenly wasn’t a trend word — it became non-negotiable.

I already knew tallow worked. But when we actually paid attention, the whole “natural” aisle — and even most tallow brands — were just more of the same: overpriced jars, poorly sourced ingredients, and unnecessary extras.

Natural wasn’t natural — it was marketing.

We spent months visiting farms and talking with ranchers — comparing tallow sources firsthand. We wanted to know exactly where it came from and how the cattle were raised.

If it wasn’t the best — we didn’t use it.

So I started making it myself — sourcing better tallow and keeping it truly simple. No fillers. No fluff. Just real nourishment our skin actually recognizes.

And it worked.

We spent a full year at local farmers markets — selling face to face, shaking hands, listening, and refining batch after batch. Real conversations with real people shaped every improvement we made.

That’s where this stopped being just “our” product — and started becoming something people asked for.

They shared it, and orders started coming in from all over the country.

Everything we make exists for one reason — because we wanted something real for our own home first.
